Planning What Comes Next
If your child receives services through AzEIP, planning for the transition out of early intervention usually begins by the time your child is about 2½ years old. Your AzEIP service coordinator will work with you to discuss your child’s needs, possible next steps and the transition process.
With your consent, AzEIP can refer your child to your local school district for an evaluation to determine whether they are eligible for special education services after age 3. You can find your school district by clicking here.
What Changes at Age 3?
AzEIP provides early intervention services for eligible children from birth to age 3 under Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). These services are provided through an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).
Beginning at age 3, eligible children may receive Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) and related services through their local public school district under IDEA Part B. These services are provided through an Individualized Education Program (IEP).

What if My Child Wasn’t in AzEIP?
Your child does not need to have received AzEIP services to be evaluated for special education. If you have concerns about the development of a child age 3 or older, you can contact your local public school district to request an evaluation.
This responsibility is part of Child Find, which requires public schools to identify, locate and evaluate children who may have disabilities and need special education services.
