Encircle Families is deeply saddened by the passing of Nilda Townsend, a beloved former Family Support Specialist whose kindness, wisdom, and steady presence touched so many families and colleagues.

Nilda dedicated her career to supporting children and families. Before joining Raising Special Kids, now Encircle Families, she brought her experience as a Parent Information Network Specialist at the Arizona Department of Education, teacher, nonprofit professional, parent and trusted guide to organizations and communities across southern Arizona. During her nine years with our organization, she helped families feel heard, respected, and supported as they navigated complex systems and advocated for their children.

Those who worked with Nilda remember her as both deeply compassionate and quietly strong. She understood the very real challenges facing families, schools, and teachers, but she did not dwell on the difficulty of those challenges. Instead, Nilda looked for thoughtful, practical solutions rooted in honesty, creativity, and grace. She believed that with the right support and a willingness to work together, obstacles could be approached with care and hope.

Nilda often said that every family she spoke with taught her something. That openness and humility were part of what made her so special. She listened closely, honored each family’s experience, and brought a calm confidence to her work that helped others feel less alone.

We are grateful for Nilda’s years of service, her generous spirit, and the lasting impact she made in our community. Our hearts are with her family, friends, former colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Her legacy of kindness, advocacy, and family-centered support will continue to inspire us.
